A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join this well established company from the food industry based in the Chester area.
Job Purpose;
To ensure the site operates in full compliance with all relevant environmental and health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices. The role will lead the site’s environmental and health and safety management system, ensuring a safe and environmentally sustainable working environment for all employees and the surrounding community. Additionally, the role will involve external benchmarking of best practices in EHS to drive continuous improvement and maintain industry leadership.
Qualification / Experience required;
- Working Knowledge and experience of ISO 45001/14001 management system standards, compliance, and auditing techniques
- NEBOSH Level 3 National General Certificate Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occ. Health & Safety or equivalent or commitment to achieving this level via NVQ or other equivalent route in role
- IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent or commitment to achieving
Role & Responsibilities;
- Engage with colleagues all levels to promote a highly engaged EHS culture across site through behavioural observations, coaching, analysis, communication, and engagement with all relevant parties
- Coach, advise and support all staff to ensure safe systems of work are robust and maintained
- Ensure effective communication takes place through all channels to maintain awareness of EHS issues through regular meetings, briefings, information and through consultation at the site EHS forums
- Develop, implement and maintain the relevant management systems which support the recognised EHS certifications and other standards in conjunction with the Head of EHS. E.g, (ISO14001/45001/MCerts etc.)
- Lead subject specific projects, including multi-discipline team members at site or across multiple group sites, applying knowledge, experience and all aspects of your duties as directed by the Head of EHS
- Manage the site risk assessment register, monitor progress of action completion, sign off risk assessments produced by management and support completion of specialist risk assessment for site
- Manage site aspects and impact log to identify risks and opportunities and agree actions
- Maintain and administer the Incident Management System, ensuring all are investigated to root cause and closed out sufficiently
- Ensure systems are in place to monitoring, measure and confirm effectiveness
- Ensure that Policies, Procedures, Documents, Record and Specifications, which include EHS elements are signed off and reviewed to schedule and when incidents or improvements dictate
- Lead in identifying EHS training requirements, monitor training updates, compliance and that resources are made available
- Deliver specific EHS training, including the site induction section, across Group
- Monitor and ensure that required reports and KPIs are collated and communicated on a timely basis and necessary counter measure actions are taken
- Administer and review the Internal EHS Auditing system ensuring that all audits are completed as per agreed schedule and that any corrective actions are identified and closed out on time
- Host internal and external EHS audits with site management and monitor action progress to completion
- Host regulator and other interested parties’ visits to site ensuring that EHS standards are complied with, and any resulting actions and communications are logged and resolved via the site management team
- Act as the primary contact for site or any external regulatory agencies or EHS stakeholders
- Continually support and counsel Operations in identifying and dealing with incidents and emergencies, ensuring that procedures, drills and emergency equipment is in place and updated
- Managing the long- and short-term response to EHS incidents and emergencies, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
- Lead and manage incident investigations working with other departments to gather comprehensive information and evidence
- Prepare and provide detailed external and internal incident communications and reports for senior management and external stakeholders
