Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you a recent Graduate passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Do you want to gain invaluable experience while making a real difference in the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and Speech and Communication Difficulties (SCD)?

Are you seeking stepping-stone experience as a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, before considering a career in Teaching, Educational Psychology or similar?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join a Primary School Inclusion Team as a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant.

Key details:

  • Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Large, inclusive Primary School in central Newcastle
  • Full-time, long-term role (8.30-3.30pm Mon-Fri)
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for children with ASD, SEMH and communication difficulties.
  • Assist in implementing individualised learning plans and strategies to ensure each child’s needs are met
  • Offer social and emotional support to students with SEMH difficulties – help them develop social skills, self-regulation techniques and coping strategies
  • Work closely to support children with communication difficulties, such as implementing Speech and Language Therapy interventions
  • Encourage an inclusive environment for all children with a variety of ages and abilities
  • Manage behaviour and sensory support to help children understand and follow rules and routines, using positive behaviour strategies, particularly providing additional support during transitions or difficult periods.
  • Earn up to £520 per week

As Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will gain hands-on experience in supporting children with diverse needs in the classroom and collaborating with a dedicated team of professionals. You will work closely with the school’s SENDCO, as well as classroom teachers and other support staff, gaining a rich understanding of SEN provision and developing a range of support strategies.

Ideal for Graduates of Education, Psychology or related subjects keen to gain long-term experience as a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to best prepare for training in Teaching, Educational Psychology or similar.

As Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with individual students with SEN to help them access the curriculum, build social and emotional skills, and support their overall development. Your role will include providing tailored assistance to children with ASD, SEMH and other complex communication and learning difficulties, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive both academically and personally. You’ll be an integral part of the Inclusion Team, working in partnership with other professionals and school staff to ensure each child’s needs are met.
