Graduate Learning Support Assistant

Have you recently graduated with a degree in Psychology, Specialist Education or similar and are considering a career in Educational Psychology, Behaviour Management or Teaching?

A progressive Secondary School in County Durham are in the process of developing a new specialist unit to support their learners with SEN and complex behavioural challenges. The forward-thinking Trust have identified this Secondary School as a good starting point for several specialist units they plan to build for students with acute additional needs within their academies, and aim to deploy several hard-working, dedicated Graduate Learning Support Assistants.
Graduate Learning Support Assistant Job Specification:
- Graduate Learning Support Assistant
- Full time: Mon-Fri 8am-4pm (30min lunch break)
- Pay: up to £520 per day
- Work closely with the school's SENDCO and other Support Staff to bolster the Provision
- Manage and regulate challenging behaviour
- Lead small groups of students in academic tasks and help monitor progress
- Support students pastorally and socially, and prepare for re-integration into mainstream school where appropriate
Graduate Learning Support Assistant Character Specification:
- Degree (2.1 or above desirable) in Psychology, Education or similar (essential)
- Experience working in an education environment, particularly with students with SEN and complex needs (desirable)
- Previous roles involving managing and regulating challenging behaviour, such as work in Residential Homes, Police Force etc. would be useful
- TeamTeach Training or similar would be beneficial - de-escalation, emotional regulation etc.
- Resilience to emotionally and physically challenging situations
- Excellent communication, team-work and people skills are essential to being successful in this role.
- Available ASAP for interview with the school
The well-established school is in the heart of Durham - for commutability, a car may be necessary for the role as Graduate Learning Support Assistant
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Graduate Learning Support Assistant - perfect for candidates with a passion for working in the SEN or Behaviour Management sector to gain valuable experience in a school-based setting prior to training as an Educational Psychologist, Behaviour Specialist, Teacher or similar. The successful candidate will be instrumental in helping develop this effective Specialist unit on the site of the mainstream Secondary School, providing crucial support to students most in need as Graduate Learning Support Assistant.
