Finance Assistant

Location: Uttoxeter

Hours: Monday to Thursday (part time – 24 – 30 hours a week)

Hourly rate: £13.12 per hour

The role:

Our client is seeking a Finance Administrator to join their Finance team on a part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with the Finance Manager and another Finance Assistant, ensuring the smooth operation of all finance-related matters.

The primary responsibility of the role is to provide effective and efficient financial and administrative support to the team, while also contributing to the delivery of high-quality customer service, both internally and externally.

Main duties:

  • Record Sales Ledger entries from source documents and generate and distribute customer statements
  • Follow credit control procedures to ensure timely payment of customer account balances
  • Process customer receipts and reconcile customer accounts
  • Process supplier invoices, reconcile supplier statements, and resolve supplier queries
  • Prepare and distribute supplier remittance advices
  • Provide administrative support including scanning, filing, data entry, answering calls, and handling incoming mail
  • Actively seek opportunities to enhance the efficiency and quality of financial processes
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers by phone and email, maintaining high levels of customer service
  • Perform bank postings and daily bank reconciliations
  • Record daily turnover to assist with variance analysis
  • Complete credit applications and conduct credit checks for new customers
  • Process payment runs
  • Support company sustainability efforts by recording carbon monitoring data
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash

About you:

  • Experience using accounting software
  • AAT qualification or part-qualified status is desirable
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, either through relevant experience or studying for an accounting qualification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) at an intermediate level, with knowledge of lookups and pivot tables preferred
  • Ability to input accounting data into the system quickly and accurately
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Confident, resourceful, and proactive
  • Ability to work well within a team in a busy office environment, maintaining focus and high concentration levels
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to effectively manage and prioritize workload
  • Willingness to take responsibility and use initiative when necessary
  • Flexible and adaptable to changes in procedures and practices, eager to improve skills
  • Willing to take on additional tasks as required with a flexible attitude
