Last sixteen heartbreak again for Lyndsey in Women’s Ultimate Pool Pro Series

Ultimate Pool Pro Lyndsey Roberts experienced double heartbreak in last sixteen as she was beaten in the second round twice in Events 3 and 4 of the Pro Series earlier this month.

In Event 3 Lyndsey recorded a great result against a very good player, former England teammate Sharon James, with a 7-4 in the last 32. Lyndsey then took part in a roller coaster match with another former England teammate in Beckie Watkins. Losing 5-1 Lyndsey dug deep to pull the scores level at 5-5 only to see Beckie clinch the match by winning the last two frames.

Event 4 saw Lyndsey play her best pool so far beating Linda Maider in last 32 winning the match 7-3, which secured a fixture against star player and Northern Ireland International Mika Rooney on the TV table on the Sunday morning.

“TV matches present a different challenge as these matches are timed and the tables play different to a normal surface,” Lyndsay explained. “I won the first frame then quickly got on a finish looking set to take a 2-0 lead before snookering myself on the black. I got out of the snooker, but Mika levelled at 1-1, which tables turned slightly and I was quickly 3-1 down and felt like I’d hardly done anything wrong.”

Suffering a bounce out when set to pull the game back to 3-2, Lyndsey then found herself 4-1 down and eventually running out of time losing 6-2. “I was gutted as that’s the third time we’ve played in the last 12 months on Ultimate Pool and I’d been winning so was hoping to get the hat-trick. It’s always a great achievement beating someone like Mika as you have to play incredibly well to win,” said Lyndsey.

“Although that was me out again in last sixteen, I have to remind myself that all 32 women are phenomenal players and we’ve all earned our right to be there in the professional section. There are multiple international players, World and European Champions, every match is tough and each one of us on our day is capable of winning one. I was probably a bit hard on myself as I’d put a lot of time in on the practice table leading up to it but again there’s lots of positives going forward.”
